Honoring the memory of the stonewall riot, inspiring activism to end discrimination

Stacy and Jolie Bass-Walden started with a simple idea: to gather with their LGBTQ+ friends, those looking for something to do in celebration of Pride other than the local club scene, and do it around a bonfire each year. Through these gatherings at the beach, a reputation had blossomed for hosting wonderful, fun-filled celebrations intended for people to connect. People began asking if Stacy and Jolie had considered doing something bigger, so in 2014, Alki Beach Pride was officially created in order to build new ways to better connect and strengthen our community in West Seattle.

“We were married right here on the beach where Alki Beach Pride happens every year, and our dream is still to share our love for each other, our community, and this beautiful area that we call home in ways that foster acceptance and understanding, each and every year. We started with a small potluck-style celebration. Yet, in 2016, the same year as the Pulse nightclub shootings, we decided we would set up on the beach, bigger and better, and open up the event to welcome everyone!”

Stacy and Jolie couldn’t be more proud to continue to grow Alki Beach Pride into something that brings so much joy to those who attend. Alki Beach Pride has always been a family-friendly event that is representative of just how diverse and beautiful family and community can be. They truly enjoy bringing pride to Alki Beach to celebrate our community, and enjoy one of Seattle's most revered landmarks. This is, and always has been, a passion project, and Stacy, Jolie, and the rest of the ABP team hopes to see you out at the beach, enjoying the sun, the sand, and the celebration, this and every year!
